In addition to the courses below our Regulation ToolKit Course and our Playfully Present Parenting Course are both starting again in September too. And our Therapeutic Play Skills Certificate course is starting again in the autumn too!

Superheroes and Disney in Play Therapy
Facilitator: Edel Lawlor
Date: 26th September 2020 LIVE ONLINE COURS Fee: €110

This one day workshop provides and introduction into using Superheroes and Disney in therapeutic work with children. The facilitator has seen, first hand, how children have used these metaphors in Play Therapy. She will share her experiences on the beautiful ways in which children can heal and use the power of these wonderful characters and stories, such as The Lion King, Inside Out, Wonder Woman, Batman and so many others. This will be an experiential workshop exploring the roles of Superheroes in Therapy and discovering our own Hero’s Journey.
Using superheroes in the playroom can help children in a number of ways just as superheroes have origin and transformation myths, clients both young and old continually attempt to understand their own origin. Superheroes are transformed by circumstances beyond their control, so too, are clients altered by life events and traumatic experiences that include abuse, separation, illness, loss and relocation.
The day will provide rich learning in a fun, interactive way and will enhance skills and confidence for those in attendance.

Children’s Therapy Centre - 2 Part Online Training Event
'From Messy Play to Monsters'
A playful dance through Neuro-Dramatic Play, Embodiment-Projection-Role, and the Theatre of Resilience
Dates: 23rd and 24th Oct 2021 Course Times: 2pm-5pm each day (Ireland) Fee: €110

A two part live online training workshop on the three strands of ‘DNA’ that constitute the play experience from conception to 7 years. Throughout dramatic play is the dominant theme, whether verbal or non-verbal. Dramatic play needs to be understood as a powerful drive in child development through which the infant develops empathy, increases their flexibility and becomes resilient to the ups and down of life. We shall follow the continuum from 'mess to form' and from 'chaos to order' as we create havoc and then calm. Be prepared to make a mess and challenge your basic play formalities!
This experiential online course includes a PowerPoint presentation and practical experience of 'actions and reactions' in the stages of drama and role development. It includes the 'slime-sticky-slippery' creation play, role-reversal, sensory re-enactment and story. Participants will have notes of new techniques and role observation tools for application in their practice.

Delivering Therapeutic Mental Health Programmes in Schools
Facilitator: Edel Lawlor
Dates: 6th November 2021 LIVE ONLINE TRAINING Fee: €110

This experiential training day addresses all that is involved in planning, developing, and delivering therapeutic mental health programmes for children in primary school settings. It focuses on two creative arts based programmes that Edel developed:
  1. Happy Hearts, Happy Heads - a mental health programme for primary schools. This programme is designed and delivered to raise awareness about mental health in children. A 3 tier approach is used, involving children, parents and teachers, so that everyone gets to learn about mental health and ways big people can look out for little people's hearts and heads. The children’s sessions include the use of stories, arts and puppets.
  2. To Leave with Ease – making the transition from primary school to secondary school. This full day programme involves a full school day creative workshop with 6th class students. The idea is to help students with concerns they may have about secondary school, celebrating change and recording positive memories of primary school through creative activities. It also includes a parents workshop (evening) - helping parents to help their children with transition and exploring the world of teenagers.

'Infant Mental Health'
With Dr. Sue Jennings

Dates: 27th and 28th Nov 2021, Course Times: 2pm-5pm each day (Ireland) Fee: €110

A two-part live online training workshop exploring Infant Mental Health.

Recent years has raised much greater awareness of the importance of Infant Mental Health. It is never too young to start, and a baby’s mental health is just as important as their physical health. The brain starts to grow shortly after conception, and during the first three years it is growing at its fastest rate.

This course provides an intensive training in Infant Mental Health with both contemporary theory and practical application.

We shall learn about the baby’s need to be sociable and that their brains are wired to connect. To maximise mental health babies need to establish and sustain healthy attachments and live in a predictable environment. This security enables them to feel adventurous and to begin to explore. It is essential for their social and emotional development.

However it all starts during pregnancy and we shall discover techniques that will help mothers to interact with their unborn child and to establish pre-birth communication.

During this course you will learn:
  • Brain and body information that contribute to mental health
  • Understanding of attachment formation
  • Relaxation and Mindfulness for mother and baby well-being
  • Developmental progression of infant mental health
  • Strategies for assisting over-anxious parents
  • Stories to calm and soothe
