CTC Training Workshop
Playful Pandemic Parenting
Strengths Based Parenting for Pre-Teens, Tweens & Adolescents
25th March 2021, 7:30pm-9pm
ONLINE TRAINING COURSE
Fee: €30

Facilitator: Laura Coleman, Psychotherapist & Play Therapist
This innovative training session will introduce Parents and Carers to Strengths based parenting for teenagers. A style of parenting that seeks to deliberately identify & cultivate strengths. It will also provide to a basic understanding of the adolescent brain and provide skills, tools and concepts that will be helpful while parenting pre-teens and teens during the pandemic. This session will help you assess your adolescents’ strengths based coping strategies.

Laura specializes in working with adolescents and knows first-hand that adolescents as a group are struggling. This is the developmental stage where the person is no longer a ‘child’ but is not yet an adult. There are tasks that must be completed in order to transition into healthy adulthood. The pandemic has interrupted the development of these tasks for many.

The course is designed to equip parents and carers with tools for themselves and their children. It is also suitable for those working with teenagers, parents, and carers. Throughout the session, we will explore tried and tested creative ways to help you support and connect with your pre-teen, tween or adolescent.

This course is most suitable for parents and carers of older children, teens and young adults.

Topics explored will include:

· An introduction to understanding the adolescent brain
· An overview of strengths-based parenting – techniques and tips.
· Ideas to help you manage and handle defiance
· Communicating with your adolescent
· Ideas to encourage siblings to get along during quarantine forced togetherness.
· Staying connected to your teen / ways to reconnect

Facilitator: Laura Coleman is a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist and play therapist working from an adolescent and child centred perspective.
