Henry Kronengold is a child psychologist in private practice in New York City. He has worked as a clinical supervisor and professor at the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology, City University of New York and at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Dr. Kronengold is the author of Stories from Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, in which he explores the unpredictable world of child and adolescent psychotherapy through a series of engaging and innovative clinical vignettes. The ups, downs, and dilemmas of therapeutic work are considered in each realistic narrative as readers are offered a unique view of what happens between the therapist and child, as well as the therapist’s own process during the therapy. In our training with Henry we will experience this in person as we explore two of his case studies in detail. We will also consider Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy through a psychodynamic lens.

Henry’s inimitable style and flair for storytelling will captivate all who are lucky enough to attend his training! He allows us to experience his therapy sessions as if we were flies on the wall – and you will laugh out loud even as you are blown away by his creativity, honesty and capacity to be fully present to his clients and make therapeutic use of self.

In this presentation, we will consider the different ways that children may play and the challenges those differences hold for child therapists. We will consider how our own histories, backgrounds, and personalities influence how we play and how we view the play of others. Using experiential group play and interactive discussion, we will discuss how these influences may impact our work with children as well as heighten our empathy and appreciation of play in its different forms.
