Join Dr. Lorri Yasenik from Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute (Canada) and the International Centre for Children and Family Law (Australia) to study the skills of working on-line with children and youth. Lorri will provide some video examples of on-line sessions and training video clips to exemplify play therapy concepts and techniques. Participants will have an opportunity to practice play therapy interventions on-line with peers.

This 6-hour certificate program will focus on special topics including:

- Setting the Stage for Tele-Play Therapy including developmental considerations
- Role of Caregivers including participation and involvement in online sessions
- Therapist Use of Self in Tele-Play Therapy
- Expressive Modalities (e.g. art, playdough, puppets)
- Use of Objects and Symbols
- Alternatives to the Use of Sandtrays
- Describe the appropriate procedures for structuring Tele-Play Therapy sessions
- Identify the roles of caregivers and assess when and how to provide feedback
- Describe “use of self” in the Tele-Play Therapy process
- Demonstrate ways to incorporate different expressive modalities
- Design different ways to incorporate the use of symbols in Tele-Play Therapy

Space and technology requirements:

- Sound cancelling headset or confidential room to participate in
- A computer or other suitable device (e.g. i pad), ideally, with built in (or external) microphone, speaker and camera - an external camera is very useful but not essential.
- Uninterrupted internet connection
Note: If you have difficulties with sound (microphone or volume) on computer, use of external microphone and/or speakers may work better than adding a second device.

- A selection of miniatures
- Paper, markers, crayons
- A selection of items from nature
- Some playdough or clay
- A sandtray (with rice or sand … but small enough to lift or position so that your camera can “see” the container)

Suitable for: This course is recommended for qualified and trainee play therapists. Trainees should have already completed introductory training in this area.

Lorri Yasenik is the co-founder and co-director of Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute in Calgary Alberta Canada and the founder and co-director of the Centre for Children and Family Law in Sydney Australia. Lorri is a registered Play Therapist- Supervisor with Association for Play Therapy (APT) and a Certified Play Therapist-Supervisor with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy (CAPT). Lorri provides child psychotherapy and play therapy and delivers national and international training related to children’s issues and specialized child and play therapies including treatment of trauma, developmental issues, children of high conflict separation and divorce, attachment, domestic violence and adjustment issues. Lorri has co-authored three books, multiple chapters and articles related to specialized child therapy and child related practice.
