Exploring the Therapeutic Powers of Nature-Based Play

for Reconnection and Recovery.

A blended-learning course comprising online sessions containing demonstration and theory of best practice, and experiential directed study tasks, leading to the Children’s Therapy Centre Certificate in Nature-Based Play Therapy.

Six x 2 hour sessions fortnightly: Tuesdays 4-6pm
|
16th June; 30th June; 14th July; 28th July; 11th August; 25th August 2020

Aim: To equip qualified and trainee play therapists with knowledge, confidence and skills to use Nature-Based Play Therapy in their practice with individuals, small nurture groups and families. The focus is on experiential learning and embodied awareness in relation to therapeutic use of self in nature-based play therapy practice.

By the end of this course, participants will have completed and developed knowledge and competence in:
|
- Distinguishing between therapeutic play in nature and nature-based play therapy
- 4 experiential play therapy activities for immersion and orientation in nature.
- 5 different examples of how to use natural materials indoors in play therapy
- 5 experiential play therapy activities for sensory and projective play in nature
- 5 experiential play therapy activities for whole body immersive play in nature
Participants will also have considered application to play therapy practice in 3 different modalities.

Participants and Fees: This course is only open to qualified and trainee play therapists. Booking is online and the fee may be paid in a single payment (€395) or a booking deposit of €100 with the remainder automatically charged 3 weeks prior to the start of the course. Trainer: Maggie Fearn SFHEA; MA DATP; MA HIPPT; BAPT
|
Maggie is a child and adolescent psychotherapist, play therapist, filial therapist, clinical supervisor and author. She is Senior Lecturer MSc Play Therapy at University of South Wales, visiting lecturer at the Children’s Therapy Centre, Ireland and provides clinical practice for The Windfall Centre in Wales. She was a play practitioner for 30 years, a Forest School practitioner for 15 years, and a practitioner of Body and Earth: Experiential Anatomy, Somatics and Authentic Movement since 2010. She focuses on developmental and trauma informed therapy with children, young people and their families. She has a particular interest in exploring the evidence base for nature-based play therapy interventions and her clinic has a beautiful woodland garden.

The course comprises of a mixture of live teaching, lecture, video demonstration, Q&A discussion, directed study tasks and small group reflection.

Participants will receive an accompanying pack of handouts and resources for each session.
