New Project
Good afternoon,

We hope that you are safe and well and finding your way through these difficult times. We are so excited about our wide range of upcoming online CPD courses. We are delighted that we can continue to deliver high quality CPD training at this time. We are honoured to have so many phenomenal trainers on board to facilitate our upcoming workshops. From Paris Goodyear Brown in the USA, to Professor Sue Jennings in the UK to our very own Edel Lawlor and Emer McDonagh here in Ireland, and of course Maggie Fearn in Wales, there really is something for everyone! Check out some of the courses we currently have on offer below. You will find full course details, and information on our other courses, on our website www.childrenstherapycentre.ie

Who are these workshops suitable for?
The following workshops are part of a series of training events which support the diversification of practice by play therapists and other suitably qualified professionals, including teachers, psychotherapists, social workers, psychologists, early years teachers, family support workers and project workers. All of the courses will take place online so you can continue to engage in CPD training from the comfort of your own home.

Space and technology requirements:
  • Sound cancelling headset or confidential room to participate in
  • A computer or other suitable device (e.g. i pad), ideally, but not essentially, with built in (or external) microphone, speaker and camera.
  • Uninterrupted internet connection
Note: If you have difficulties with sound (microphone or volume) on computer, use of external microphone and/or speakers may work better than adding a second devise.

Putting it all back together – a limbic model of construction play with Dr Sue Jennings

Date: 28th May 2020 ONLINE COURSE Fee: €110
In the limbic model of construction play there is the opportunity to ‘put everything back together’ both in the lives of children and young people, and in the surroundings which may feel hostile. The limbic area of the brain is where we experience nurture, feelings and the building of relationships. It may feel that the world has fallen apart and lacks coherence after trauma and this can be experienced through generations as well as developmentally in people’s lives. In this one-day course we shall explore the underlying theory of mess avoidance and its possible early roots in early adverse experience. Too much mess and chaos can be very scary; lack of order can be overwhelming to the child who feels their world has crumbled; sticky substances could have scary associations. This will be Sue’s final CPD training day in Ireland before she emigrates to India.

Winning the Worry Wars Facilitated by Paris Goodyear-Brown Online Course
Dates: 30th and 31st May
Course Times: 2pm-5:30pm (Ireland)
Fee: €150
This innovative course facilitated by Paris Goodyear-Brown will synthesize the current research and literature on treating anxiety disorders into a developmentally sensitive play therapy approach. Fighting our fear can be difficult, especially for children who may need to externalize the fear, who literally need to put a face on it, in order to begin mastering it. Participants will learn dozens of techniques to help children articulate their worries, interventions that aid in relaxation and stress management, and strategies for including parents as partners in the process. Clinicians will learn play-based interventions that help craft "boss back" talk and counter cognitive distortions. Playful tools for designing and tracking gradual exposures will also be covered. Specific play therapy techniques will be augmented by detailed case examples, video clips, slides of children’s completed therapeutic creations and experiential learning.

PLEASE NOTE: Paris Goodyear Brown’s training is suitable for qualified and trainee psychotherapists, play therapists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, social care workers and clinicians trained and approved to therapeutically work with children and teens.

Through the Fairy Door: An adventure in storytelling with Dr Sue Jennings
9th June 2020 ONLINE COURSE Fee :€110
This is an attachment-based play course, that develops our right-brain potential for play and stories. Whereas our left-brain supports our logic, numeracy and literacy, our right brain stimulates our magical worlds of ‘let’s pretend’, taking us on a myriad of dances, images and pictures. We shall discover creative ideas that we didn’t know we had, and sample delights that fly with our imagination. The underlying theory is the established embodiment-projection-role paradigm, but it is taken to new heights through attachment-based play.
