This is an attachment-based play course that develops our right-brain potential for play and stories. Whereas our left-brain supports our logic, numeracy and literacy, our right brain stimulates our magical worlds of ‘let’s pretend’, taking us on a myriad of dances, images and pictures. Often too much emphasis is placed on rote and factual learning at the expense of the curiosity and experiment that is encouraged by our right hemisphere. It is this exploration that enables problem-solving, discovery and research.
We shall discover creative ideas that we didn’t know we had, and sample delights that fly with our imagination. The underlying theory is the established embodiment-projection-role paradigm (EPR), which focuses on the first seven years of child development and the parallel play stages. EPR is taken to new heights through attachment based playfulness which enables us to discover new images and stories to take away and treasure.
Dr Sue Jennings is Professor of Play (European Dramatherapy Federation), Visiting Professor University of Derby, President Romanian Association of Play Therapy and Dramatherapy. Pioneer of Neuro-Dramatic-Play, a unique paradigm in play development. Sue is a prolific author having published over 40 titles, including her doctoral research on child-rearing with the Temiar tribe of Malaysia. Sue is in the moving to retirement stage of her career (having planned to retire fully in 2017 she has slowed down this process) so few opportunities to train with her are now available.
This course is recommended for play therapists, child psychotherapists, creative arts therapists, psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, teachers, child-care workers, family support staff, project workers, social workers, foster carers, day-care and early education staff, and others working with children and families.
