Derval is an experienced play therapist, child psychotherapist, child development specialist and supervisor, supporting children and families for almost 20 years. She has experience working as a therapist in a variety of settings including private practice, primary and secondary schools as well as charity organisations. Her background in childcare has enhanced her therapeutic work in engaging and supporting children with difficulties relating to autism, anxiety, self-esteem, separation issues and developmental delay. She has extensive expertise working with children and adolescents experiencing trauma and bereavement, who experience social and emotional issues, who engage in self-harm, have suicide ideation, depression or have difficulties around gender identity and body image. Derval works privately as a therapist and supervisor. She also works in Pieta with children and adolescents. Derval joined CTC staff as a supervisor in 2023 and as a trainer in 2024.
