This workshop is part of a series of training events which support this diversification of practice by play therapists and other suitably qualified professionals, including teachers, psychotherapists, social workers, psychologists, early years teachers, family support workers, nurses, and project workers. It is a one day intensive workshop, facilitated by Edel Lawlor, designed specifically to help participants work with and/or support children affected by cancer, including children and teenagers living with cancer, cancer survivors and children who have a family member with cancer.
Edel has a wealth of experience working with children, teenagers and their families who have been affected by cancer. Through her work and connections, Edel has found that often cancer is not spoken openly about and acknowledged in a developmentally appropriate way for children, thus leaving children in the darkness and at tines unable to even say the word cancer. Unfortunately, as we all know, cancer is a disease that affects the lives of so many. This workshop will shine a light on how we can support children and teenagers affected by cancer. The focus will be on developing our understanding on how best to provide support children through the use of creative approaches. This workshop is open to all people and professionals working with or supporting children and teenagers.
It will be an interactive day with plenty of ideas to help children, teenagers and their parents or carers. Edel will also focus on recognising our own limitations and supporting ourselves in this journey of hope.
